Establishing equal access to quality education for all

Dr. Carey Latimore IV stands as the guiding inspiration for the foundation that bears his name, embodying a life of profound impact and integrity. He was, first and foremost, a man of God, a faith that grounded his actions as a phenomenal husband and community leader. His brilliance as a scholar, historian, and author was evident in his meticulous scholarly work, yet he coupled this intellectual rigor with a deep generosity for those in need.
At Trinity University, he was revered as an excellent professor and mentor, shaping countless students' lives, while also serving as a supportive history department chair and colleague. Beyond campus, Dr. Latimore was a great supporter of his community and a gifted public speaker, often sought for his constructive and fair opinions on complex social and historical issues.
His unique ability to dialogue respectfully with people of different faiths and political affiliations underscored his wisdom and commitment to understanding, making him a true model of leadership and grace for everyone involved in the Carey Latimore IV Foundation.
Our mission is to provide equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities and high-touch support so that students from all backgrounds can step confidently into their future. Through scholarships and grants, mentoring and community partnerships, we believe that by unlocking one student’s success, we contribute to stronger families, healthier communities and a brighter society.
When Carey and Almie Latimore first embarked on supporting students in need, their motivation was simple: help someone realize a dream. That early success revealed a powerful truth - that one student’s achievement can ripple outward into family, community and future generations.
Though Dr. Latimore left us in 2022, his legacy lives on in every scholarship awarded, every mentor engaged, every barrier dismantled.
The Foundation stands as a testament to his spirit and the belief that when you invest in young people, you invest in tomorrow.

God builds His church from those of all nations, tongues, and backgrounds, and His people are richest when they listen and learn of His grace through this mosaic.—Dr. Carey Latimore
Sharing stories that you may not have heard before, Dr. Carey Latimore leads you deep into the lives of key women and men from colonial America to the present—people such as Cyrus Bustill, Harriet Tubman, and Kanye West. Their stories are set in periods of grief, injustice, and intense social and economic division, which makes the hope-filled lessons they teach us today all the more miraculous. Through their legacy, we will learn the power of faith to sustain us through tremendous challenges, to lead us to forgive others and learn from our own mistakes, and to inspire us in building the kingdom of God.
